The Medicines of Tomorrow-
They will cure such life-threatening diseases as cancer and Alzheimer's, as well as minor aliments like the common cold and allergies. These wonderful medicines will be developed through research and scientific studies called clinical trials, which test new drugs for safety, effectiveness, and long-term treatment. Those who participate in clinical drug trials do so to contribute to scientific knowledge about medications, to improve health of others and, perhaps, to improve their own health. They always receive high-quality medical care and may be financially compensated for their services.
Our clinical drug trials are conducted under the supervision of physicians and other health care professionals called 'trial investigators.' Their safety is further assured by FDA guidelines and by an institutional review board, a special committee of independent physicians and medical experts that review the progress of trials to make sure that patients are not exposed to unnecessary risk.
